Useful web tools

The Internet has revolutionised the way we keep in touch, the way we view the world and the way we interact with that world and live our lives. As a journalist I use the following tools that I find invaluable for networking, sharing ideas and content in the day-to-day aspects of my job:

Wordpress is just one of the web’s many blogging sites and is an essential tool for any journalist.

Facebook is a social networking site that has taken the Internet by storm. Incredibly useful for networking and keeping in touch and up-to-date with work and social contacts.

If you have photos and images you wish to share with others then you need Flickr.

Twitter is a great free social messaging utility tool that works well in conjunction with Facebook and Wordpress, allowing you to keep your blog readership and contacts up-to-speed with what you are doing.

Poker journalism

Don’t’ forget to check out my blog for all things poker related and see what tournaments I have been covering, which players I’ve been interviewing and what features I’ve been working on and for whom.

As a freelance poker journalist the following sites are either directly related to the poker titles I write for or read regularly or are otherwise incredibly useful sources of news, information and are the online homes of the Internet’s poker community:

WPT magazine (World Poker Tour) is one of the poker titles I write features, strategy articles and player profiles for. Here you can view some of my fellow poker writer’s and my work online and see who and what will be featured in the next issue.

Visit the GUKPT website. This is the online home of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour – the UK’s premier poker tour. Run jointly by Blue Square Poker and Grosvenor/G casinos, the tour is a series of poker festivals that take place throughout the UK and online.

Despite not renewing their poker tour for 2009, Gala Casino’s GCBPT was a great success and an event I very much enjoyed covering.

Instead the tour has re-branded to become the British Masters Poker Tour and is now sponsored by Coral – if it is half as popular as the GCBPT I’m sure it will be incredibly successful.

As the world’s biggest and most comprehensive online poker source, PokerNews is one of the top poker information sources, offering global poker news coverage, online poker reviews and special poker bonuses and deals.

TheHendonMob is one of the best sources for live poker tournament results and is also the world’s most comprehensive poker player database featuring the details, tournament earnings and results of over 100,000 poker players.

Another top online resource for the discerning poker player is Blonde Poker, bringing you poker news, UK local and national poker information on live and online poker tournaments, information about poker leagues, poker pictures, and home of Blondepedia – the world’s biggest poker bio and gallery database.

A World of Poker (AWOP) is the premier poker forum in the UK with exclusive poker tournaments and a wealth of information on all aspects of poker. These guys provide up-to-date information on the UK’s live tournament poker scene, making it that much easier to do my job.

One of the Internet’s largest poker communities and forums can be found at Pocket Fives featuring online poker's oldest and most trusted rankings, weekly podcasts and poker discussion with professional online poker players.

The other is Two Plus Two, the forums of publishing house Two Plus Two who write and produce some of the best books on poker that have ever been written. This is the place to talk strategy, tactics and keep track of all things online poker related.
